Hawai`i Craftsmen was founded in 1966 and brings 40+ years of
experience and community relationships to its membership.
Our members are represented in the White House Crafts Collection,
the Renwick Gallery of the Smithsonian Institution and in numerous
private and public collections in Hawaii, the U.S. mainland as well as
in international museum and private collections. Many members have
work in the SFCA Art in Public Places collection.
In addition to the many professional crafts persons representing
the full spectrum of crafts in Hawaii, the membership also includes
many students and amateurs of varying levels as well as craft
supporters and collectors.
Most of our programs are co-sponsored or produced with the help of
The Honolulu Academy of Arts, The University of Hawai`i, The State
Foundation on Culture and the Arts, The Mayor's Office on Culture and
Art, East West Center and other arts and culture organizations
throughout the state. All of these programs are available and promoted
to neighbor islanders. Receptions, exhibits and selected activities
are free to the public; fees are charged for certain workshops and
programs.
Hawai`i Craftsmen receives its funding from membership dues,
program fees, private donations, the Hawaii State Foundation on
Culture and Arts as well as several local foundations that vary from
year to year.
