ASJE 2012



The 2012 annual exhibition was juried by Jo Lauria. She is a respected art and design historian and independent curator. Formerly a decorative arts curator at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA), Lauria specialized in modern and contemporary decorative arts, craft, and design. She has published extensively, organized numerous exhibitions and produced and directed multi-media presentations and documentary films. From 2007-2009, Lauria served as chief curator of the exhibition, Craft in America: Expanding Traditions, a nationally touring show hosted by seven American museums. Lauria’s most recent exhibition, Master of Mid-Century California Modernism: Evelyn and Jerome Ackerman, was on view at the Mingei International Museum, San Diego March 2009-January 2010. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Yale University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in studio art from Otis College of Art and Design.

Sculpture MFA candidate Abi Good served as the overall chair and project coordinator for Hawaii Craftsmen’s 2012 Statewide Juried Exhibition.

Serving as exhibition designer was artist, curator, and former gallery owner, Keiko Hatano. Neighbor island submissions were coordinated by Hawaii Craftsmen board representatives, Hugh Jenkins (Big Island), Tim Garcia (Maui), and Kathy Cowan (Kauai).
